Pakistani Taxi (old Model)

Q: Chalo gay? (lets go)

A: Chalain gay? (sure)

Q: Clifton jana jae? (Clifton?)

A: 400 lagain gay. (400 bucks)

Q: 400!!! … kis bat ka? (400!!)

A: sir itna he hae…chalna hae to batain…(take it or leave it)

This is how one starts with hiring of taxi and rickshaw in Pakistan. Neither consumers nor drivers ever discuss meter-based fare. why? is it not in Pakistani Law…  or Pakistani transport has something special… the answers is a big ‘NO’.

Most of time, drivers discourage use of meters or they have meters broken Or if they do these are not monitored by authorities.

Pakistani Rickshaw (old model)

Fare also goes up and down with day light. If it is evening then expect the rate 50% higher than the regular; and after midnight, can be as high as 80% of the regular. Adding more to it, drivers also charge more when CNG is closed.

Now lets discuss the condition of cabs and rickshaw. Very ill-maintained …some even stink.

and at last consumers are then left with no option other than doing what drivers demand.

Becharay (poor) consumers….

Is this ok?

Why these cell companies send promotional sms without taking consent ? Can we stop them?

Well may be you can (in a way) … by avoiding these SMSs coming in your inbox folder. I  have an adnroid mobile and I use Mobilink Postpaid package (Unfortunately!). I avoided these promotional SMSs  by putting them all in a junk by identifyeing keywords in SMS text or subject.

This may be possible through inbuilt SMS blocker; but one can’t avoid cellular companies own promotional stuff. For example SMSs from number 300 .

Solution:    Install aFirewall Blocker (Free) from goole play and put keywords in rule-filter. You are done!

It took me a week to indentify all these keywords. I am posting them for your convineinece. Please see the screenshots.

Travelling duration betweek Multan and Lahore is 6 Hours approx (road travel) and Sahiwal City is just in the middle. So why not find a good decent place in Sahiwal, take some rest , eat, pray and get yourself recharged to continue journey. Yes, View hotel has all this.

View Hotel is located on your left of highway as your come from Lahore. As you react near, there is an inclination off the  road- 15 feet (tini-mini hight) and the hotel is right at top. The hight gives a good opportunity to look around and relax. View from top is almost 360 degree , showing canal (and its one major tributary) on one side and highway on the other side.

In Summer: Best time to visit is when the Sun is not on your top (before 11 AM  or after 4 PM)

Here is the map for this.

Here is the Link showing route to Sweetwaters Game reserve.

Before you plan to go, here are some tips:

Contact Sweetwaters and book the camp for you (and for your family) @ Khs 7000 per adult and Khs. 3500 per child above 4 years of age. It per night stay which includes  lunch, dinner and breakfast. (Official Fact sheet)

In addition, you will be required to pay a fee for your car (5 Seater @ 3oo) and fee for park for your self (as same as we pay for other parks).

It usually takes 3-4 hours to reach , depending on your speed.

Beautiful sight-seeing of Mt. Kenya- if weather is clear.(Though I could not see)

You will also cross Equator, which is very exciting.

After you cross Equator , there is a small town with a big store “Nakumatt” ; so do buy some good eating/drinking stuff before you take final turn to game reserve.

On your way back , you can enjoy Trout Fish at a very special restaurant built on a tree called Tree Trout Restaurant.

Only 30-minute drive from hospital, you’ll be able to see lush green tea fields. There is a waterfall nearby on top of the hill ; accessible through a privately owned land by Khalid Butt (Urdu/Punjabi speaking) and  his restaurant with Spicy Pakistani tikka and biryani!

Here is the route via Limuru Rd and Limuru Golf Club. This route was my personal preference because of safe and swift drive with more option of sight seeing.

There is another alternate route which goes through small pockets of populations. Generally Roads are good but the drive is not swift due to traffic.

You can even reach through highway through this route.

Route two (through Old Naivsha Rd to Mombasa-Malaba Rd): Good for high-speed travel and also good for night travel.

Travel tip: Take route one for leaving in the morning and take route two for returning in evening.
